Christmas Gifts for Conservation
To promote conservation best practices, public health, and sanitation, we always organize a gift-sharing event, where we give a bull to a cluster of 10 families who have worked together to promote hygiene, sanitation, and conservation activities. This project is being implemented in the Kiryandongo tourism village in Kyejojo District, Western Uganda.
At the beginning of the year, we always announce the criteria for the groups to follow, which include beautification of the compounds, collection, and planting of at least 30 flower species, planting of compound trees and edible fruits, having a garbage collection pit at home, an energy saving stove in the kitchen, a well-covered latrine with hand washing water and soap among others. This year, we added a banana garden to the criteria at each home to ensure food security and beautification of the village as a tourist destination.
A group of 10 homes have to work together to ensure each member has the items mentioned above. For transparency, we invite a health and environment officer to guide the process of ranking the best cluster of homes. We want this practice to spread across the region. That’s why we are working hard to raise USD 27,000 to have enough packages to give in mid-2019 and at the end of the year as Christmas gifts. These motivate people to embrace environment best practices, prevent disease, and enable people to develop themselves. We look forward to your support as we create Uganda’s model villages.
Do not undermine your capacity to create a change. We accept all kinds of donations, even as low as 5 USD, one by one, make a bundle.
